Off Duty
Family/Community

There isn’t a place where family means more than in the United States Navy. From child development and youth programs to discounted travel and tickets to theme parks and picnic/camping areas — the Navy is continually working hard to ensure your family has every opportunity it would in the civilian world — and more!
And for our 18–25 year old single Sailors, Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) offers “Liberty”. This program is a favorite among Sailors and includes trips and tours, concerts, table and video games, mini-theaters, Internet connections, and holiday and special event activities.
Child Development Program
This MWR program provides affordable, accessible and quality childcare for preschool-age children in Child Development Centers and Child Development Homes (homes of selected military family members). Full-time, part-time, and hourly/drop-in care is available. The National Academy of Early Childhood Programs is the accrediting agency for Navy MWR Child Development Centers.
School Age Care Program
This program provides before and after school care on base for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Youth Recreation Program
This year-round recreation and sports program is designed to foster social interaction among peers, physical fitness, an interest in the community, and the development of positive life-long recreational skills. The Youth Recreation Program offers many activities, including special events, talent shows, dances, crafts, fitness classes, internet kiosks, and a variety of individual and team sports activities.
Other Youth Programs/Groups
Other youth programs may also be offered on base: Naval Sea Cadets and Navy League Cadets, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts are offered on various bases around the world.
Auto Shop
Auto Skills Centers allow Sailors to work on their vehicles and learn key automotive maintenance skills. Most facilities include indoor and outdoor automotive bays, machine shop equipment, a tool issue area with access to electronic repair manuals, classroom and storage areas.
